Peter Guidi

My dear friend and collegue Peter Guidi left us April 17, 2018. He was a very warm person, fabulous jazz flautist and dedicated teacher. I always loved his reading of the standard ‘I Wish I Knew’. Have a listen to this giant.

Click me: CD ‘Forbidden Flute’, track I Wish I Knew (Warren/Gordon)
from Forbidden Flute by Guidi Quartet/Trio, Peter. Track 7 of 11
Peter Guidi – alto flute, Rob van Kreeveld – piano, Hein van de Geyn – bass, Bart Fermie – percussion, recorded 1999.

I had the pleasure to review for him his album “Forbidden Flute’ for the Flute magazine in 1999. Wanted him to return the favor of almost twenty years ago and called him up end of march 2018. He said he had trouble with his sight and reading and could not do it right now. Next thing I heard he died. Such a loss.

In 2003/4 I had the privilege to work with him in a project called ‘Flutes n Brass’ with the Guus Tangelder Big Band in Arnhem together with Jeroen Pek and Ronald Snijders. 2014 he listened and reviewed 2 takes of my ‘For Rahsaan’ track (CD Solo Flutes) as I wanted to know which track he prefers and which one to release. Finally I published the take he liked best.

Here a nice portrait of Peter at the Dutch Jazz Heroes series.
