João Paulo Estebes da Silva (Portugal) – piano

Nelson Cascais (Portugal) – double bass

Martin Andersen (Denmark) – percussion, drums

Mark Lotz (Germany/Netherlands) – flutes, bansuri, FX

MØDE is a creative platform bringing together four of Europe’s finest modernists, spanning Denmark to Portugal. The ensemble explores new sonic landscapes through an interactive acoustic quartet.

With cutting-edge contemporary jazz, MØDE is driven by four fearless improvisers and composers, led by a captivating horn. Their music traces a dynamic path from North to South, celebrating life with serene soundscapes and intense energy.

History

Mark Lotz first met Nelson Cascais while touring Portugal in 2016, leading to an impromptu performance at Nelson’s concert at HCP, Lisbon. Over the years, both musicians waited for the right moment and the ideal lineup to take shape. In the summer of 2018, everything fell into place, and MØDE was born—bringing magic and pure joy from the very first notes.
