Please welcome Sonic Squid Music.

After all these years, I have finally started my own record label. For many years, most of my albums were released by Loplop Records. Other releases appeared on labels across the globe—some disappeared, some collapsed, some never paid us at all. When Loplop vanished as well, it became clear that the moment had arrived to take matters into my own hands.

Rebuilding everything took time: getting the music republished through a distributor, removing older versions, creating new artwork, designing a logo. With the invaluable help of Marcel van den Broek, it all came together.

Sonic Squid Music is an independent label, publishing my music. (https://sonicsquidmusic.com)
A home for the unheard, the unexpected, and the uncompromising.

My debut Puasong Daffriek (1994) drew early attention for its unconventional concepts and imagination. Since then, more than twenty albums followed. The catalogue moves freely between underwater soundscapes, night music, solo flute explorations, contemporary jazz, a trilogy of Afro-Cuban Yoruba interpretations recorded in Havana, collaborations with West African Fula musicians, or free improvised music with the Istanbul-based ensemble Islak Köpek (“The Wet Dogs”).

Fish surface throughout this work—sometimes in titles, sometimes in artwork, sometimes hidden in the layout. This started with Puasong Daffriek and continued through projects such as A Dutch View on Fish and Bite!. Sonic Squid itself is not an animal but a character from a Japanese anime. As a scuba diver, the connection goes deeper nonetheless. Our oceans and fish populations are being destroyed at an irreversible pace. If this resonates with you, please consider supporting Sea Shepherd.

All releases are now available via  Sonic Squid Music  on all major streaming platforms. Streaming, as you know, offers artists only a minimal share. Bandcamp remains the platform that treats artists ethically. It is the best place to listen, support, and own high-quality files or physical releases. My website is, as always, the most direct route.

New releases are in preparation. More on that soon.

For now: dive in.
Wrap the tracks around your brain and don’t let go.
Whether you’re working late, driving at night, or escaping the noise, Sonic Squid Music delivers authentic, unpredictable sonic depth and energy.

Only dead fish swim with the flow.

Thank you for your interest and support.
