An Energetic Acoustic Guitar/Flute Duo with a Surprising Edge

Daniel Marques and Mark Lotz were touring Nepal and India as well performed in concerts in the Netherlands an Holland 2017-2018. They brought together new compositions and improvisations that highlight the natural synergy between ‘New Brazilian Music’ and jazz. Their concerts featured individual solo sets followed by a duo performance, blending structure with spontaneous musical exploration.

Lotz and Marques first met in 2015 in Guangzhou, China, and immediately felt the urge to collaborate. Their music is a dialogue between composition and improvisation—both energetic and intricate. The seven-string guitar and the diverse flute family offer an impressive range of octaves and textures, producing a sound that shifts from warm and woody to crisp and metallic.

Their performances capture the essence of urban jazz life, the dynamic pulse of Rio’s streets, expressive vocal eruptions, and echoes of the jungle. This duo did it all.

They are currently on an India tour, unrolling the broad timbre and vibrant compositions from the South American realm.“

„A wonderful music concert. … Marques’ skill and virtuosity was of a high level. … Both musicians were playing their own compositions and arrangements which were intricate and well worked out.“
