T(w)o-Do – Avantgarde-jazz duo (1991-2001)
A duo of two musical adventurers who embarked on extensive tours through Germany, building a strong following. Their many concerts and debut CD, Mostly Harmless…, were highly acclaimed.
T(w)o-Do consisted of flutist Mark Alban Lotz (Berlin, Germany) and bass player Tjitze Vogel (Utrecht, Netherlands). Their collaboration was rooted in original compositions and reinterpretations of jazz-avant-garde classics from recent decades.
With an adventurous approach, they incorporated extended techniques—percussive elements, circular breathing, multiphonics, voice, electronics—and an extensive range of flutes, from piccolo to contrabass, alongside unconventional instruments like the didgeridoo and flötophon. This allowed them to craft a diverse palette of textures, explored in fluid sound collages and structures ranging from songs to sonic fairytales.
