The New Mark Lotz Standard Quartet (1994-2000) delved into lesser-known gems of the American Songbook, deeply rooted in the mainstream jazz tradition and especially the Ellington repertoire. Led by an unconventional lead instrument, the flute, the ensemble offered a different perspective on jazz classics.
The album Blue Moods with The Mark Lotz Quartet received high international acclaim for its atmospheric and intricate flute-fronted jazz. Lotz also explored jazz collaboration with renowned Turkish vocalist Sibel Köse in the Sibel Köse/Mark Lotz Quintet (2010 & 2013).

Performances
The quartet(s) saw performances in France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium, with occasional performances in India, Taiwan, Turkey, Poland, France, Italy, Portugal, and Japan.

All About Jazz (USA)
“Marvelously atmospheric flute-fronted jazz from the Netherlands. Blue Moods is one of the most satisfying flute-jazz offerings in recent memory.”
“Interplay worthy of some of the great small bands in jazz history.”

All Music (USA)
“Lotz’s chosen instrument sets him apart, of course, but so does his skill as an improviser. He’s a daring, spontaneous soloist who manages to invest the flute with the sort of earthiness one might more logically expect from a saxophonist.”
Latin Jazz Net (USA)
“Mark Lotz is more than just a big voice in the European jazz scene. He is at the forefront of jazz, classical, and world music and is obviously enjoying every minute of it!”
